Günter Haumer will sing in Christmas in Vienna 2017 with Juan Diego Flórez, Anne Sofie von Otter and Olga Peretyatko.
Christmas in Vienna is looking for perfection at the highest level, is looking for the best classical voices and finds the stars of this world. Classic conquers the hearts of the fans … The concert takes its audience into a world of its own for a few moments, consults on Christmas, and creates a sense of peace among people – from humanism or religious conviction. Plácido Domingo invited the superstars to Vienna every year. Dionne Warwick, Michael Bolton, Sarah Brightman and Patricia Kaas, as well as legends like Charles Aznavour and Tony Bennett, are the names of the pearls of a chain: Diana Ross, who began with José Carreras. A special highlight in 1999 was the concert with the three tenors.
Fame and brand, however, survived and in 2003 a new and independent Christmas in Vienna was established. The message of peace has remained, and Karl Scheibmaier, as artistic director, carefully led the Gala concert into a new format in which classical literature dominated the program. The venture has paid off as soon as the superstars of classical music sang in the Viennese concert hall again: artists such as Thomas Hampson, Grace Bumbry, Juan Diego Flórez and Elīna Garanča led the Christmas Gala concert into a new popularity that still dominated the Great Hall Seams. Thousands of spectators enjoy the festive event live at the Vienna Konzerthaus, hundreds of thousands watch it in front of the screens, and millions listen to the songs of Christmas in Vienna at home on CD or You Tube.
The importance of Christmas in Vienna with singers and the audience reflects José Cura’s words well: “Once in your life you have to sing Christmas in Vienna.”
