Melba Ramos, American soprano, completed her studies at the Pablo Casals Music Conservatory in San Juan, where she received the first prize at the District Metropolitan Opera Auditions in 1987. She gave her opera book shortly thereafter as Despina in Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte”. From 1989 to 1992 she belonged to the Cologne Opera Studio. Afterwards, she was engaged until 1996 in the Emsemble of the Wuppertaler Bühnen, where she began to build up her repertoire as a lyric coloratura.
The opera of the City of Bonn, Komische Oper, Deutsche Oper and Staatsoper (alone Berlin), as well as the theaters in Mannheim, Bremen, Kassel, Hamburg and Hanover, attracted numerous guest engagements.
She has also attended the Westchester Hudson Opera in New York, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, the Teatro Teatro Liceu in Barcelona, The Teatro Arriaga Bilbao, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Schwetzinger Festival, Salzburg Mozart Week and Salzburg Where she collaborated with conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Thomas Hengelbrock and Christopher Hogwood.
